Jacquie’s three favourite things are good food, travel and the law. After her undergraduate at Queen’s, she obtained a Masters in Human Rights from the London School of Economics. She has worked for several international development and human rights organizations in Africa, Asia, the UK, Canada and the US. This includes 13 fantastic months spent in Indonesia where she worked on post-tsunami reconstruction. In her first year at Osgoode, she served on ILP’s Events Sub-committee and helped to organize our first annual International Advocacy Week. She spent the past summer falling in love with Sierra Leone where she worked for an organization focused on juvenile justice. Jacquie is looking forward to getting Osgoode excited about international issues in the year ahead.

Noelle is thrilled to return to the position of Deputy Director at ILP, a position which allows her to be involved in nearly every aspect of ILP’s various projects and activities. After joining ILP as a member of the Events Subcommittee in first year, Noelle worked at the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative in Kampala, Uganda. Her research on Uganda’s labour law and practices was included in a report published in 2011. Outside of ILP, Noelle is a poet, dog lover, and third year student at Osgoode. In her previous life Noelle studied English literature and creative writing and she remains addicted to stories of odd people living profound lives.

Ian is a second-year student at Osgoode. In 2010-11 he served as the junior project director for ILP, in which capacity he helped establish a partnership with the Salvadoran organizations Voices on the Border and FESPAD. He spent this past summer in Ethiopia working with the United Nations Office of Staff Legal Assistance. He's completed two degrees in history, worked for a spell in Central America, and spent several years as a newspaper editor. He speaks credible Spanish and French but appalling Amharic.

Ozlem is entering her second year at Osgoode Hall Law School. She spent her summer in Belgrade, Serbia working for the United Nations Development Programme Serbia. While abroad, she co-authored a policy paper on judicial reform evaluations. She also assisted Serbia’s Commissioner for the Protection of Equality design anti-discrimination initiatives and draft an application for European Union funding.

Alana is in her second year at Osgoode and she is excited about taking on the position of Fundraising Officer. In her first year, Alana served on the executive team as the Junior Fundraising Officer. She also worked in fundraising for the Heart and Stroke Foundation for two summers. Alana’s goals are to obtain a grant for the fellows travelling overseas to assist with their expenses and to gain funding for ILP as an organization. She has a long-standing interest in international affairs, stemming from her major in International Relations while at McMaster University. This past summer, Alana worked at the Hamilton Community Legal Clinic.

Sylvia Kym is a first year student at Osgoode. Last summer she organized a fundraiser for the OXFAM Trailwalker and is looking forward to doing the same for this year's fellowships. Sylvia did her undergrad in Political Science and Environmental Studies at the University of Toronto where she was able to do a semester at the University of Hong Kong. After graduation she spent two years teaching in rural Japan. Since returning she has regularly volunteered at the Toronto Distress Centre hot-line.

Kyle is in his third year at Osgoode Hall Law School. In the summer of 2010 Kyle worked in the Research Division at the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI) in Kampala, Uganda. Kyle investigated a variety of labour law issues and produced a report which will be published by FHRI. Additionally, Kyle assisted in the production of the FHRI Political Space Report which assessed the political situation of the country before the 2011 elections. Kyle is currently the Finance Officer of ILP.

Jon is a second year student at Osgoode and spent summer 2011 in Kampala, Uganda working for the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative. While there, he coauthored a report on the right to fair trial. Outside of law school, Jon has worked for education advocacy groups and graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a degree in physics. Jon is also a member of the Osgoode Student Caucus and sits on the York University Board of Governors

Dave is a third year law student at Osgoode in the ICT stream. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario he went to Liberia to volunteer for Amnesty International on projects involving former female combatants. After working with some inspiring former combatants and women's rights activists Dave became hooked on West Africa. He returned in 2009 to work for Amnesty in Sierra Leone on a massive maternal mortality campaign, which he missed the second two weeks of first year for! In 2010 he returned to Sierra Leone, where he worked for the Special Court for Sierra Leone, Dave is currently a Project Director for ILP, as well as the President of the Legal and Literary Society. Dave has been an executive on ILP every year since he started at Osgoode and looks forward to making more great projects available to students.

A third year student at Osgoode, Alex spent his ILP summer working for Legal Aid of Cambodia in Phnom Penh. Although he spent the majority of his time on issues of illegal land grabbing and land tenure reform, Alex also completed analyses of Cambodian natural resource policy and juvenile justice system. Outside of ILP, Alex is a senior editor with the Osgoode Hall Law Journal.

Jeff is entering his second year at Osgoode Hall Law School and is thrilled to be a member of the 2011-2012 ILP executive team as a Project Director. This past summer, he participated with the ILP fellowship program in Prishtinë, Kosovo. Working for the local think-tank Institute for Advanced Studies GAP, he analyzed the procedures and practices of Kosovo’s Assembly, drafted legislative amendments, and recommended operational reforms. His reports will be published in the inaugural edition of GAP Journal, Kosovo’s first public policy journal. Prior to attending law school, Jeff obtained his MA in political science from Carleton University and his BA in political science at the University of Western
Ontario. Jeff previously worked as a researcher and analyst for The Rideau Institute, a Canadian NGO, and was Parliamentary Assistant to Hon. Carolyn Bennett, a Canadian MP.

Hera is a second year law student at Osgoode and is excited to be joining ILP as a Project Director. Hera is interested in international law and development, human rights and women’s issues. In 2008 she completed an internship with the Centre for Egyptian Women’s Legal Assistance in Cairo, Egypt. This past summer, Hera participated in an ILP fellowship with the United Nations Office of Staff Legal Assistance in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Hera is looking forward to facilitating next year’s ILP fellowships and ensuring that future ILP fellows and partners have a fantastic international experience.

Krisha Persaud is a second year student at Osgoode. Last year she was a member of the ILP events committee and helped to organize the advocacy week on sexual and gender-based violence. Krisha did her undergrad in Global Development Studies and Political Studies at Queen’s University. In the past she has worked for Amnesty International Canada and volunteered with organizations such as Mines Action Canada and METRAC. In the summer of 2010, Krisha interned with a NGO in Ghana that works with communities who are negatively affected by mining operations.

A first year student at Osgoode, Saneliso recently graduated from the University of Toronto with a Specialist in Women and Gender Studies. Her studies, were highly focused on issues around HIV/AIDS and the social determinants of the disease, specifically in Sub-Saharan Africa. Saneliso is also the founder of a small NGO, called Zanele Poverty Relief Effort, which operates in Zimbabwe and supports the needs of orphans of AIDS. Through her legal education she hopes to be able to take her experience in her undergraduate degree, and her work through Zanele to pursue a career in law related to social justice.
